Genetic Health: Advanced Science for Your Family's Safety
Medical genetics at Gynatal Timișoara integrates genetic counseling, preconception carrier screening, and Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT). All procedures are conducted in world-class Clean-Room laboratories within the FutureLife network.
Preconception genetic testing
Preimplantation genetic testing
At Gynatal, medical genetics plays a vital role in personalizing fertility treatments and supporting the achievement of a healthy pregnancy.
Through genetic counseling and advanced genetic testing, we identify hereditary risks and determine the best options for your health and that of your future child.
Each case is individually evaluated by an experienced multidisciplinary team of geneticists, embryologists, and assisted reproductive medicine specialists.
We benefit from a state-of-the-art embryology laboratory, recognized within the international Future Life Group, of which Gynatal is a member.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) assists in selecting embryos with the highest implantation potential.
What is PGT?
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is the genetic analysis of embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) before they are transferred to the uterus.
PGT aims to:
-
Identify genetic abnormalities and inherites genetic disorders
-
Select embryos with the highest implantation potential;
-
Reduce the risk of miscarriage;
-
Increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy and live birth
We recommend PGT in the following situations:
-
Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL)
-
Repeated IVF implantation failures (RIF)
-
Advanced maternal age;
-
Known genetic mutations in one or both partners.
-
Balanced chromosomal rearrangements
-
Severe male factor infertility with high sperm DNA fragmentation
Types of PGT
- PGT-A
Helps identify embryos with a higher potential for implantation and progression to a healthy pregnancy. - PGT-M
Helps identify embryos that are not affected by a known inherited genetic disorder present in the family. - PGT-SR
Helps identify embryos with balanced chromosomal structures from parents carrying balanced translocations or inversions - niPGT-A (Non-Invasive PGT-A)
Analyzes embryonic DNA obtained from the culture medium, allowing chromosomal screening without embryo biopsy in selected IVF cases
Benefits of PGT
-
Reduces the number of unsuccessful embryo transfers;
-
Lowers the risk of miscarriage;
-
Increases implantation rates;
-
Shortens the time to achieving pregnancy;
-
Reduces the emotional stress associated with repeated treatment failures;
-
Decreases the risk of severe genetic disorders.
Your personalized PGT journey
In alignment with our Information Foraging strategy, we segment genetic care into three logical phases of the patient journey:Genetic Counselling
The foundational step for couples with a history of miscarriages, hereditary diseases in the family, or advanced maternal age (over 35).
- When to choose: Before starting IVF if there is a risk of transmitting monogenic diseases or chromosomal translocations.
Preconception Investigations (Carrier Screening)
Identifying "hidden" genetic risks in healthy partners before conception occurs.
- Method: Blood analysis to detect mutations for recessive diseases (e.g., cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy).
- The Advantage: Minimizing the 25% risk of having a child with a serious condition when both partners are carriers.
- Technology: Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT / ni-PGT-A)
Analyzing the health of embryos before they are transferred to the uterus during an IVF cycle.
- Outcome: Significantly reduces miscarriage rates and shortens the time to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
