Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is a proactive medical procedure to preserve a woman's reproductive potential by flash-freezing eggs at a younger age. At Gynatal Clinic (Timișoara), we utilize advanced vitrification technology with survival rates exceeding 95%. This method effectively "stops the biological clock," allowing women to plan their families when the time is right, whether for social or medical reasons.

What is Egg Freezing (Oocyte Cryopreservation)?

Egg freezing is a method of storing unfertilized eggs to maintain their biological quality for future use. By using vitrification—an ultra-rapid freezing technique at -196°C—the delicate cellular structure of the egg is protected from ice crystal formation.

At Gynatal, we proudly carry forward the legacy of Romania’s first successful in vitro fertilization. And, today, as part of the FutureLife network, we provide an ANT-accredited environment for your biological insurance.

Why Consider Freezing Your Eggs?

Biological fertility declines significantly after age 35, affecting both the quantity (ovarian reserve) and genetic quality of eggs.

1. Social Freezing (Personal Choice)

Many women choose social freezing to prioritize career goals, education, personal development, or to find the right partner without the pressure of a declining biological clock. Freezing eggs before age 35 offers the highest probability of future success.

2. Medical & Onco-Fertility

Egg freezing is a vital "fast-track" option for women facing:

  • Oncology Treatments: Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be toxic to the ovaries.

  • Endometriosis: moderate to severe disease or repeated ovarian surgery that may reduce ovarian reserve

  • Family History: Early menopause or family history of Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)

  • Benign ovarian surgery: women undergoing ovarian cyct or endometrioma surgery may benefit from fertility preservation

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does egg retrieval reduce my future fertility?

No. The eggs retrieved are those your body would have naturally lost during that specific menstrual cycle.

Technically, they can remain frozen in liquid nitrogen indefinitely without any decline in quality.

While possible throughout the fertile period, freezing before age 35 provides the best results due to superior egg quality and quantity.
